Who is Rey?
September 2017

We asked two members of the Jedi Council who they think Rey is. The team’s collective imagination conjured up the following theories…
Alex
Two words: No One
That's my theory (hope) for Rey. Why every human in the Star Wars Galaxy has to be related I don't know? But the fans expect as much.
Introduced to Finn...'he has to be Mace or Lando's relative', Kylo Ren is Leila/Hans son, Anakin is Luke's dad (ok we knew that was coming but still). Every time we see a Twi'lek do we assume they are related to Oola? Is every Trandoshian related to Boosk? Not all Wookie's are related to Chewie. We saw that in the Attack of the Clones. So why does every human have to be related? If the story is told well, it shouldn't be a requirement.
Yet...deep down the nerd in me knows she will be a descendant of either Skywalker or Kenobi genes. I want her to be a no-one but she will ultimately be a Kenobi. Obi-Wan and Satine hooked up, had a child in secret (Sabine perhaps? I'm calling Ursa isn't her real mother) who then had Rey.
That's my take on this topic...what's yours?
Dave
A new Kenobi, for a new age
There are lots of theories doing the rounds. Mostly centred on her being a Skywalker or a Solo. Both are tosh I think.
Skywalker? Who is the mum? Mara Jade? No, there has been no suggestions from Lucasfilm that any such character is about appear (either as memories or in the flesh). However, this is more plausible than Solo.
I think this is a longing for Jacen/Jaina, now consigned to Legends, and the fans just want to see some of the fiction brought back into canon. Han and Leia both met her, neither went wild at finding their daughter. And when Han met Leia he said he had seen their son, no mention of a daughter or that she had been kidnapped by her brother. Talking of which, Kylo met her with no recognition.
We know Obi Wan had feelings for Satine – and mentions this to Anakin when they are on Mandalore. He also hints at it being, perhaps, more. Then, there were the voices Rey heard when she first touched the Lightsaber in Maz’s Castle. She heard Obi Wan. Why Obi Wan? Obi Wan had the lightsaber in his possession for longer than either Anakin or Luke, and over the years I am sure he would have got it out of its box, possibly thinking of better times and imprinting the kyber crystal – therefore allowing the ‘saber to recognise Rey when she was close.
Too young though I hear you cry. But she doesn’t have to be the daughter – a granddaughter works well from the age we know her to be.
Yes, a Kenobi she is!
