Peter Mayhew, better know as Chewbacca, has been remembered at the 92nd Academy Awards in Hollywood last night in their “In Memoriam montage”.
Mayhew, who died in May 2019 aged 74, played the famous Wookie in all three of the original Star Wars films, episode three of the prequels and in 2015’s The Force Awakens where he shared the role with Joonas Suotamo before leaving the saga due to ill health. It has been a sad time for Star Wars fans recently (no I am not talking about The Rise of Skywalker) as fellow Star Wars actor Alan Harris died at the age of 81 at the end of January. Harris played multiple roles across all three films in the original Star Wars trilogy but was best known for playing bounty hunter Bossk in The Empire Strikes Back. He was also a Stormtrooper in all three movies in the original trilogy and his body was also used to mold the pieces for bounty hunter Boba Fett's costume and C-3PO's stand-in! Jeremy Bulloch, who played Boba Fett, led tributes for Harris and said: ‘We were so sorry to hear about Alan Harris – he was one of the nicest guys we have met – he was so modest and so very good with all the fans – he will be greatly missed.’ The Jedi Council pays tribute to these giants of the Star Wars community, their talents and love of Star Wars will be missed. |
